West Tennessee banker Kirk M. Goehring, chief executive officer of Decatur County Bank, has earned national recognition as one of 11 recipients of the American Bankers Association's 2026 Emerging Leader Awards, which honor outstanding leadership, professional achievement and community service in the banking industry.

The annual awards recognize the next generation of banking professionals who demonstrate high standards of achievement and service to both the industry and their local communities. Goehring was selected through a competitive, multi-round review process conducted by banking industry professionals who evaluated nominations submitted from across the country.

“I’m honored to be recognized as an emerging leader in an industry that I love, and receiving this from the American Bankers Association makes it especially meaningful. This award belongs to our entire team at Decatur County Bank and West Tennessee Bank, whose commitment to our communities and clients shows every day,” Goehring said.

Jay England, chairman of the bank’s board of directors, praised Goehring’s leadership and the relationships he has built throughout Jackson and West Tennessee.

“Kirk is a natural leader, and has shown in his life as an athlete, coach, banker and as a church and community leader how important it is to bring people together. This Bank has grown and furthered our mission of serving the people of the community, due to Kirk’s leadership, commitment and love of the folks in Jackson and West Tennessee.”

The ABA Emerging Leader Awards recognize banking professionals who demonstrate dedication to their profession, innovative thinking, leadership skills, mentoring ability, personal integrity and sustained career growth. The selection committee also considers nominees’ commitment to a long-term career in banking, professional experience and academic training.

“The talent and dedication of this year’s ABA Emerging Leaders reflect a passion for innovation, a commitment to excellence and a willingness to lead by example,” said Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO. “We congratulate this outstanding group on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to the contributions they will make to our industry and the communities they serve.”

Goehring and the other members of the ABA Emerging Leader Awards Class of 2026 were recognized during the ABA Annual Convention, held in October in Salt Lake City, Utah.
